Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s JA Inspire Too Career Expo Connects Exceptional Students With Local Employers

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida, in collaboration with LARC, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Buckingham Exceptional Student Center, and Lee County School District, hosted the JA Inspire Too career expo for exceptional students at the Buckingham Exceptional Student Center on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. This event invited students with disabilities from Lee County High Schools to participate in a hands-on experience that introduced those in attendance to various careers and opportunities available in the future.

JA Inspire Too offered a unique, inclusive career exploration experience tailored specifically for exceptional students. The event provided students with hands-on activities, often using actual equipment and tools that employees use on the job. In preparation for the event, participating schools received grade-level appropriate career exploration curricula to ensure students were prepared to engage with industry professionals. Additionally, parents were encouraged to attend to learn about the future opportunities available to their children and help gather information for meaningful career discussions.

"The JA Inspire Too event is a wonderful example of how we can provide meaningful opportunities for all students, regardless of their background or abilities," said Angela Fisher, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida. "It’s an inclusive platform that opens doors for exceptional students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce."

The event engaged 188 students who actively explored various career paths, guided by nearly ten career path advisors from diverse sectors, including Publix, McDonald's, Cape Coral Technical College, Goodwill of SWFL, LARC, YMCA, Project SEARCH, and Sam's Club/Walmart. These advisors shared valuable insights on the credentials, skills, and experiences required for students to pursue successful careers.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida and its esteemed partners are grateful for the collective effort that made the JA Inspire Too career expo successful. This event exemplifies their commitment to providing all students with the resources, support, and guidance necessary to succeed in the workforce.
